Building an online community
An online community serves as a virtual community on the world wide web, in which members come together to involve themselves in community-based activities online.
The purpose of an online community is to serve as an information system where content is free to be read and posted by anyone, for example with the use of a bulletin board system, a weblog (web blog) or message board.
The online community concept has become a supplemental form of communication who may or may not know each other personally in the material world.
Many of the online community means are used in social software, either individually or a combination, that can include text-based chat rooms, forums with voice software, video text chat rooms or avatar use.
